I recently discovered a new online dating website. A new one seems to pop up everyday it seems. But I only like to write about the ones that have a cool twist to the typical online dating structure; profile photo, location, age, career, overview, interests, religion… Ability to wink, send email..etc… This website is all about posting your own date ideas.

“Backpage dating” was launched in April 2020 in New York. They just opened it everywhere as of Dec 2010. The founders, as mentioned on their website “Best friends since kindergarten, Aaron Schildkrout and Brian Schechter created Backpage dating because they wanted to build something they’d actually want to use.

“HowAboutWe is about putting the date back in dating. How it works: 1) Say “How about we…” and fill in the dots with dates you want to go on. 2) Connect. 3) Go out.

Magical dates. Simple dates. Wild dates. Lovely dates. Each day we’ll send you new dates that match your interests. And, of course, we’ll send the dates you propose to people who might like them. Then you can check out people’s profiles, message each other, and go out.

We think people are at their best when they’re doing things they really like to do. That’s what Backpage dating is all about.”

I am all about meeting face-to-face. Not to say I haven’t done my own share of online dating, but in general I prefer to meet the men I am interested in out in the world first. I am not against online dating it does have its purpose to get people out there. But I have to say I like the twist this company has done. I mean online dating is not going to go away anytime soon, so maybe there is a nice compromise to typical online dating websites which tend to seem cold and not friendly, feeling like you are doing endless shopping down the aisles. Instead, a website that got people to meet initially online, but in a fun create way that shows a glimpse of someone’s personality.

I would consider signing up for a website like this because they are all about not sending endless emails and winks, but getting out there and having a fun date. Something you would actually like to do. And just maybe there will be some chemistry!

The website gives you the ability to sign up and explore without paying any fees. You can have a profile, post your own “how about we…” date ideas, browse other profiles and date ideas, receive daily dates, and read your messages. To set up a date with someone you do have to subscribe, but their membership plans are very reasonable:

  • $8 per month for 12 months (Best Value)
  • $12 per month – 6 months (Most Popular)
  • $18 per month – 3 months
  • $28 per month – 1 month

As quoted in the Mashable article, “Dating Site Lets You Propose Cool Dates, Rather Than Pore Over Pics”, “We like that Backpage dating is simple and creative. The old practices of online dating — what with the MySpace (MySpace) shots and general penpal-age — were getting stale, and the site injects a new kind of life into the business. Also, the site itself is friendly, clean and attractive, which makes a big difference. One wants users to feel comfortable in an online space: Think about it, would you rather meet someone in a tacky dive (not the good kind) or somewhere well-lit and welcoming?”"
